Besides, rich jewel-like hues offer comfort and coziness. This may involve deep pomegranate, topaz or toasty browns.

Pay Attention to the Ceiling
What do you see when you lie down in bed? If you see a blank, bland surface, you need to make it better. For instance, you can add a bit of soft color and pattern. You can opt for a lighter version of the color that you painted on the walls. This will make your ceilings look lower in addition to emit feelings of intimacy and comfort.

As an interior designer, you need to know exactly what colours, shapes and styles go together when it comes to the walls, floors and furniture.
Contrast is important if your main focus is on aesthetics. A monotone room is difficult to enjoy because the room has one solid look in terms of the colour. Once upon a time it would have been the stylish and proper thing to do, but now it’s just boring.
Mismatching is okay. You wouldn’t put a blue throw on a blue couch. The two blues might not match. Just like you wouldn’t put a mustard coloured cardigan over a sunshine yellow shirt. Have fun when combining different patterns. The key is to make sure that the colours complement each other. For example, a mustard coloured throw over a navy blue couch creates some interest.
Odd ones out are also a must in the modern day lounge. An armchair does not need to match the style, shape or colour of the current couches and lounge suites. You could have a pink patterned fabric armchair matched with grey cushioned couches.
Carpets are great for any lounge. There is one factor that will need consideration first. Not every colour carpet will suit any lounge. You will need to consider the colours of the floors, walls and surrounding furniture. This item needs to follow a specific colour pattern that is already in the room.
Don’t use more than two different types of wood. Keep the wood colours to a maximum of two so that you don’t overdo the theme of the room. One of the woods should be for the legs of the couches and chairs and the other wood should be for the coffee table and entertainment stand if you didn’t find pieces that match.
The coffee table should be the piece that matches the entertainment stand. This flow ties the room together and adds elegance to the environment. The coffee table can also have a small decorative tablecloth and a vase of flowers placed on it for a homely touch.

This DIY project is that the end result of three terribly random happenings: 1) One of our New Year’s resolutions for 2016 was to find ways to incorporate more plants in our home. We love the sense of peace and purpose our plants bring to our home and we simply wanted to diversify our jungalow. 2) I came across Artisan Wall Mount hanging vases while browsing the Pottery Barn website and really liked the concept (just not the price $69-$119). 3) We can never resist the dollar section at Michaels and somehow ended up with 4 adorable glass test tubes for $1.50 a piece. If you have tubes around in your home (think spice tubes) that you aren’t using, this could be the perfect way to upcycle them) A few visits to the garage later and we had the perfect design for a hanging vase we had pictured in our mind. The finished product involves 4 hanging glass tubes that, while certainly smaller than the Pottery Barn Wall-Mount Vase, are far more economical ($15 compared to $69) and just as dazzling visually. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly way to incorporate more foliage without cramping your space with pots, this is the perfect solution for you! Supplies: Glass Tubes Scrap Wood Copper Tube Straps Screws Hanging Kit or Command Hanging Solution Tools Drill Hammer
Note: I did not list the dimensions of the tubes or the tube straps because that will depend entirely on what you find and decide to use. If you have your tubes just take them to Home Depot and you will be able to find the straps that fit them very easily. Also, you are not limited to scrap wood for the base; we just wanted to use what we have. If you’re looking for something less rustic, Michaels has a lot of nice wood pieces that could work. All in all, if you play your cards right, this DIY is very inexpensive and so easy to put together. Directions
Once you have all your pieces, all you will need to do is drill two holes (corresponding to the holes in the tube straps) into your base. Make sure that your base is thick enough to withstand the length of the screws.
If you are choosing to hang these on your wall the old fashion way, go ahead and nail your hanger to the back of the base.
Once complete, drill the tube straps halfway into the base so that the straps are loose enough to adjust.
Slip your tube through the tube strap until it is positioned the way you like (we aligned our tubes so that the tube strap was the halfway mark). Once you are happy with the positioning of the tube, tighten the screws until the tube is secure (do this gently so as to not crack the tube).
Mount your completed vase to the wall and decorate with real or artificial flowers, grasses, or air plants.
Now kick back and enjoy the little pieces of nature bringing your space to life
Tree removal can be very dangerous and even life-threatening. It is never recommended to remove a tree on your own unless it is a small one that you are confident you can handle safely. Otherwise, tree removal should be left in the hands of professionally-trained and equipped tree service contractors. If you have a tree on your property that is fairly small, but needs to be removed, you can possible do it yourself with the right tools, knowledge, and planning.
Tree Removal Preparation – Allison Cantor Short Hills
Proper preparation for small tree removal involves gathering all your needed supplies, as well as, a comprehensive inspection of the tree. Look to see if the tree leans one way or the other, and plan an escape route in case it does not fall the way you expect it to fall. Also, examine whether or not there are any obstacles in any direction of the tree, including vehicles, structures, and other trees. If you are sure there is enough safe clearance for the tree to fall, then you can move on to gathering your equipment and tools. This includes:
Safety Gear (Utility gloves, goggles, hard hat, steel toe boots, etc.)
Chainsaw
Ax or Hacksaw
Ladder
Rope
Wedges
First Aid Kit
To Remove a Tree
Once you have all your equipment and supplies, you can get started removing the tree. First, use your ax to knock on the bark a few times, and in a few different places, to learn how solid or hollow the tree is. Finding a less dense area to cut will be easier. Next, plan which side of the tree you want to make your cut. Look to see where the tree naturally leans; it is better to cut a tree in the direction in which it wants to naturally fall. Be sure the area where the tree drops is level so the tree does not roll or bounce after it falls.
Make a horizontal cut at hip-height, and about 1/3rd into the tree. Do this on the side of the tree where you want it to fall. If you want the tree to fall to the right, you must make you cut on the same side so it falls inward, towards the cut. The tree will fall perpendicular to your horizontal cut. Your second cut should create a wedge into the tree. So make the second cut at an angle from the initial cut. It should look like a lemon wedge.
Your third cut is called a back cut, and is should be made on the opposite side of your wedge cut. This cut will make the tree fall over on the side of your wedge cut. Make it about 1.5 inches above the wedge cut, and as thick as possible. You can also use a wedge to prevent the tree from settling onto the chainsaw. Add more wedges as necessary until the tree begins to fall. Then run! But do not turn your back on the tree as it falls.

Firstly, what you’ll need: Brick chisel Small crow bar Plastic sheets Scrubbing brush Brick sealer Dust mask & eye protection
Step 1
Protective sheets. As you’ll be able to imagine removing the plaster from your brick wall is untidy work! This is particularly important if you have an old house with the original plaster. Whilst it may seem like a bit of work it is definitely worth using plastic sheets (painting drop sheets are perfect) and taping them to your walls and ceiling to completely seal off the area you’re working in. It is also highly recommended to wear a mask to protect your lungs from the plaster dust, and even eye protection as the dust can easily irritate your eyes.
Step 2
Pretty easy to see what’s next. Simply build a hole the plaster victimisation your brick chisel. This is an honest probability to show alittle space of the brick, maybe somewhere hidden, to examine if the standard of the brick beneath is nice. Once you’ve created a hole, you can either use the chisel or a small crowbar to remove the plaster. Just tap it lightly to get behind the plaster and level it off. Be careful not to damage the bricks with the chisel or crow bar by tapping too hard. When you get to the ceiling and side walls ensure you neatly remove the plaster without damaging adjacent plaster.
Step 3
Once all the bricks are exposed the next step is to clean the bricks. Some people use acid to do this, but this can be messy and dangerous and not really required. Just some warm water and a sponge should be all you’ll need to clean the bricks. Wipe the dust off with the sponge regularly wringing it in the bucket. Repeat this 2 or 3 times replacing the water between each time until most of the dust has been removed from the bricks. If there are cracks or noticeable holes in the bricks now is your change to patch them with some cement. Small cracks and holes are fine, just ones that may impact the look of the wall.
Step 4
Sealing the wall. Various types of sealer are available for sealing bricks. Look out for brick sealers in particular. You can normally choose between gloss and matt with most people preferring a matt solution as it looks more natural. Follow the instructions on the can for applying the sealer, which normally suggest applying it 2 or 3 times. The sealer will also darken the appearance of the bricks with each coat. Let it dry and you’re done!

When it comes to home renovation, a lot of people get scared off by the price tag associated with making changes. But the truth is that most of the expense comes from employing people to do the job, not on buying materials and tools. That is why it is a good idea to think about what home renovation or upgrade projects you would be interested in taking on yourself. Those projects can take time, but they can also be a lot of fun and very rewarding. A DIY home renovation project will also make your home look so much better.
Replacing Siding
One of the keys to making the exterior of a house look better is to replace the siding with new product. If identical siding has been sitting on the house for the past fifteen or twenty years, it is no wonder everything looks old and outdated. And there is a good chance there are parts of the siding that are coming off, which is exposing the interior of the house in a way that is not ideal. What is the solution? The best thing that you can do is to go online and find instructions on how you can remove and replace the siding on your house.
You will be surprised to find so many detailed guides that will be able to help you out. Not only can you learn about the different wood siding types before you decide on what to put for your house, but you can also learn about how to get the job done. And siding is not something that you necessarily need installed by an expert. Sure, they will do the job quicker, but you can do it just as well. It is all about ensuring that you are following instructions and using the right tools.
Simpler Upgrades
If you are not ready to tackle siding just yet, you may want to check out something like gazebo plans online. Setting up a gazebo or a pergola is much easier as you are constructing something new. Even if it does not work out, you can just start over and nothing has changed. What you can do is find sites that will help you select the right DIY plan for building a gazebo or pergola. Then it is just about getting the necessary materials and setting up everything. Think of it sort of a fun spring or summer project.
The beauty of these projects is that you can make changes to the exterior of your home that are within a budget and increase curb appeal. You may have thought it would cost you thousands of dollars for such a project, but you will end up spending a fraction of that amount. And if you work efficiently, you can get the project done within weeks, as you will spend a couple hours each day when you have time off work and your other commitments. In the end, you will be so proud of how your home looks with your upgrades or renovations.
